A Case Study Examination of the Formative Effect of Christian Schooling on Graduates’ Faith
Why am I being invited to take part in this research?
You are invited to take part in a research study about your experience of Christian schooling and particularly any formative effect it had on your faith. You may participate in this study if you are 18 years or older. Participation in this study is completely voluntary and your responses will be kept anonymous. You are free to decline to respond to certain questions or withdraw your participation at any time during the data collection process. There will be no workplace, or relational consequences for participation or non-participation. This is completely voluntary.
Who is conducting the study?
The principal researcher is Louisa Doherty who is a Master of Education (Leadership) student at National Institute for Christian Education and is being supervised by Dr Jill Ireland and Dr Julia Verdouw.
What is the purpose of this study?
The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of Christian schools and particular practices in relation to faith formation.
Where is the study going to take place and how long will it last?
The interview may be held online on a platform of your choice or face-to-face at a location suitable for both you and the researcher. It should take approximately 30 minutes.
What will I be asked to do?
The interview will be conducted either face-to-face or Online via Zoom, MS Teams or Google Meet depending on your preference. The face-to-face venue would be one mutually convenient to you and the researcher, such as a library or school. The interview will ask some questions about your time at school and your current faith. You will be asked to consider whether your schooling prepared you for some aspects of your adult life. You may choose not to answer a question at any time, and you control what information you provide to the researcher.
Will it cost me to participate in this study?
Participation is free but will require access to the internet. There will be no workplace, or relational consequences for participation or non-participation. This is completely voluntary.
Will what I say be recorded or video recorded?
In order to analyse the data, the researcher will record either online or face to face interviews. All data will be stored in password protected devices and accounts.
Are there any risks involved in my participation in this research?
There are no foreseen risks. You may choose not to answer survey questions.
The researcher is a Mandatory Reporter under Victorian Law, and if you choose to disclose something that requires a report to police or the DHHS, you would be advised as soon as the researcher became aware of the nature of your disclosure, that this would be the case. Disclosure of past criminal offences may or may not fall into this category.
Will I receive any payment or rewards/benefits for taking part in the study?
Although there is no payment for participation, you may request a copy of the report when it is completed.
